Spring 2010 Internship Program - St. Pete Times Forum/Tampa Bay Lightning (Tampa, FL)

Overview

The St. Pete Times Forum is Tampa’s premier entertainment venue. Home to the National Hockey League Tampa Bay Lightning, the arena hosts the top music acts, family shows, and college athletics. Pollstar and Venues Today consistently rank the St. Pete Times Forum in the top five U.S. arenas in both attendance and revenue.
 

Students participating in our internship program will receive hands-on learning experiences on the operations of a professional sports team and arena.

Requirements:

• Students must be currently enrolled in a college or university
• Students must provide documentation of receiving academic credit for the internship
• Students must be authorized to work in the USA

Additional Facts:

• You must receive academic credit
• Internships are available on a Full Time, Part Time, or Game Night/Season Long basis
• Game night/Season Long internships are required to work at least 30 of the 42 games
• There are a limited number of positions
• All students are expected to have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Department assignments will be made by management and will occur after the interview process
• Students will need to provide proof of insurance


Box Office: Interns will assist with the Premium Services department, printing and distribution of tickets, take individual event ticket orders for ADA seating, assist sales staff, assist coordinators in daily operations, assist in season ticket delivery and distribution and general office and event/game day duties.
 

Community Relations: Interns will assist with publicity and promotional efforts, participate in fundraising activities, aid with player appearances, assist with local charities and other organizations, schedule and attend community meetings and functions, assist with give-a-ways and other prize packages, and perform administrative duties. Game night work is expected.
 

Corporate Sales & Marketing: Energetic, independent and forward thinking individuals are needed, with desire to learn and have a strong work ethic. The pace is rapid and the priorities are ever changing. The individual must be flexible, possess good inter-personal skills and have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. No less than 20 hours a week are required and event participation is recommended to enhance learning opportunities.
 

Marketing: Interns will assist the Event Marketing Coordinator and Manager. Responsibilities can include but are not limited to writing press releases for upcoming shows, update the media list and hotsheet, work events and assist with media relations, produce flyers for distribution, maintain poster displays within the building, monitor the website, update master event listing for all events, maintain show files, and create ticket and billboard comparison reports. Qualified applicants must have a strong work ethic and desire to gain experience in a professional sports and entertainment environment. Also, interns must have excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills. Must be a team player and willing to work weekends and holidays
 

Event Operations: Event Operations Interns will spend the majority of the internship working with the Guest Services and Platinum Services departments with added training with the Facility Patrol and Housekeeping departments. It is our intention to bring in students with a strong interest in Event Management and help them acquire the skills needed to succeed in this area. Skills acquired during this internship will include leadership, customer service, interviewing techniques, arena setup, accommodating guests with disabilities, answering guest compliments and complaints, among others. You will have specific game/event day responsibilities that will vary from day to day (including assisting with giveaways, building walks, game note distribution, ticket “on-sale” crowd management, etc).
 

Client Services: Interns will assist in the service of Season Ticket and Premium Seating Clientele, manage the Client Services Lounge, sell, print and distribute tickets, assist the sales staff and managers, be responsible for answering the Client Services phone line, retrieve and respond to voicemails and e-mails, confirm ticket orders, manage and update databases, assist with the overall sales process, including event and game day responsibilities and other general office duties as assigned.
 

Sales: Interns will be responsible for, research and develop industry wide sales and promotions surveys for various major league sports teams, assist in the development of a database marketing and prospecting program, assist Sales Reps in servicing accounts, assist in recruiting needs, possible sales call to potential buyers as well as various administrative duties including written correspondence. Interns should be career oriented in the sports industry, have an exceptional work ethic, a strong desire to succeed, professionalism, a passion and desire for the industry. Knowledge of database programs such as Goldmine preferred.
