ThunderBug Mascot Intern Fall 2016 Semester - Tampa Bay Lightning (Tampa, FL)

Summary

The Lightning Mascot Intern will be an integral part of our Marketing Department assisting with scheduling community appearances, marketing ThunderBug in the Tampa Bay area, and communicating information with clients.  This intern should be a highly motivated, energetic, and talented individual.   The ideal candidate would have prior experience performing as a mascot, possess excellent non-verbal communication skills, and have a creative and humorous personality.

Responsibilities:

  • Market and promote ThunderBug Appearances?
  • Assist ThunderBug at Lightning events and other community appearances?
  • Help to create and develop new revenue sources for the mascot program?
  • Help during Lightning home games

Qualifications

  •  Qualified candidates must possess superior organizational skills and be able to function in a fast-paced, multi-task setting

  • Individuals must possess excellent oral and written communication skills?

  • Must have a working knowledge of the following Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and have internet research skills

  • Must have a working knowledge of the following social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter & Instagram

  • Must have a valid drivers license and clean driving record

Requirements:?

• All candidates must have authorization to work in the U.S.A.

?• All candidates must be currently enrolled in a university or college

?• Internships are unpaid positions

?• Must be able to work all ThunderBug appearances and Lightning home games beginning September 2016 and working through the 2016-2017 season.

Internships: Communications/Community Relations
Community Hockey Internship- Summer 2016 - Tampa Bay Lightning (Tampa, FL)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Knowledge and understanding of event planning.

  • Understanding of basic fan development techniques.

  • Knowledge and understanding of fan development program formation.

  • Understanding of basic guest relations techniques.

  • Knowledge and understanding of database management.

  • Demonstrate dependability, initiative, time-management, organization, and prioritization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Community Hockey Development and staff with daily activities and projects.

  • Contribute to the development and coordination of Community Hockey programs in the Tampa area.

  • Assist on and off ice with clinics, programs and activities.

  • Create marketing plans to promote Community Hockey initiatives in the surrounding areas.

  • Develop promotional ideas and events for current and potential Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hockey strategies and sponsors.

  • Assist in scheduling and organizing the Tampa Bay Lightning NHL Street program.

  • Assist and implement ‘Mite Intermission’ performances with local recreation teams in the area.

  • Keep a comprehensive record of events and important material that cover Community Hockey events.

  • Assist with booking Community hockey events, fundraisers and on-ice activities such as; winter camps, summer camps, holiday camps, clinics and mite intermissions.

  • Attend and contribute to all Tampa Bay Lightning special events.

  • Manage the Community Hockey Department contacts database and calendar.

  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified candidates must have a working knowledge of the game of hockey.

  • Candidates must possess the ability to ice skate.

  • The internship must be a part of the student’s curriculum and must receive credit hours that apply to student’s degree.

  • Interns must work a minimum of 32 hours per week, including game nights.

  • Interns must be high-energy, detail-oriented, and team players.

  • Internships do not guarantee full-time positions with the Lightning upon completion.

  • All interns are required to lift (25) pounds and perform some manual labor.

  • Must have flexible schedule and be willing to work all Lightning home games, major events, and additional community activities, as well as, travel to local area rinks.
